Free, Pro, and what you pay for
Translation is free on every platform, within an allowance. Pro adds encrypted sync, the local API at full speed and hosted API keys, across 2 devices.

Translation is free and runs on your device: text, documents, PDFs, pictures, the camera, subtitles, the glossary, the memory and the Desk, without an account. That is not a trial; it is the product. There is an allowance rather than an unlimited meter — the free plan translates 2 pages every 5 hours, up to 30 pages in a calendar month, and the pricing page is the authority on both numbers. The glossary, the memory, the Desk and the exports are not metered at all; only translated pages are.
Sharing a glossary or a translation memory with colleagues is free too: starting a share needs a signed-in account, joining one needs only the link. Working with a team has the detail.
What Pro adds
Pro is one subscription covering 2 licensed devices — a laptop and a desktop, say — at the price on the pricing page. It adds:
- Encrypted sync of your glossary and history between your signed-in devices (the browser also syncs your translation memory) — encrypted on the device, unreadable to us.
- The local API at full speed — 600 requests a minute instead of the free 20. The API itself is not a paid feature: `traxlate serve` runs without a licence and answers at 20 requests a minute, enough to try it and enough for occasional use. Pro raises the limit on the device it is bound to. Same engine, same output, same languages either way.
- Hosted API keys, for calling Traxlate from your own tools and AI agents without running anything locally. The hosted API is the one part of the product that runs on our servers rather than your device, which is why a subscription covers it. Keys are made under Account → API keys; a key you already hold keeps working to the end of its budget if the subscription lapses. See for developers.
Nothing about translation quality, speed or language coverage differs between free and Pro. There is one recipe.
One device
A subscription covers 2 devices (Unlimited covers 3). The billing page under your account lists the devices it is bound to; a further computer beyond that count needs its own subscription, and the page says so plainly rather than offering a transfer that does not exist. Signing out does not release a device, so you can sign back in on the same machine without touching it.
Paying and receipts
Every payment produces a receipt by email, and the billing page keeps its own record of each payment in case the mail is lost. The billing page states how your payment method renews — a card subscription renews by itself, a crypto payment covers the period you bought and is not renewed for you — and shows the day your current month ends. The refund policy is short and applied as written.
If you cancel
Your installed pack keeps working and your local data stays yours — it was never on our servers. The paid extras stop at the end of the period you paid for; the device keeps its licence through a short offline grace window rather than losing it the moment a payment fails.
Your data on our side
With no account we hold nothing about you. With an account we hold your email, your subscription and payment records and — if you turned sync on — the encrypted sync data, which we cannot read. Your translations are never among them, because they never reach us. To close the account, email us from the address on the support page and we delete all of it; the privacy page lists every row and is the binding statement, and the security page is the version written for a company's procurement.
- Do I need Pro to use the desktop or phone apps?
- No. The apps are free to download and translate without an account.
- What if I use two computers?
- Translation works on both for free. One Pro subscription covers 2 devices, so syncing a laptop and a desktop needs one subscription, not two.
- Is there a team or business plan?
- Not as a plan you can buy today. A subscription covers one person on their own devices (2 on Pro, 3 on Unlimited). Sharing a glossary and a translation memory with a team is free and needs no plan at all. A licence with room for several people is built but not sold yet; when it is, it will appear on the pricing page first, and nothing about it is sold before it exists.
