Credits & billing

What is a credit?

One credit is the platform's single unit of cost across every product. Translation is priced by source characters, dubbing by minute, voice rendering by character, captioning by minute. Harder languages and higher-fidelity options cost proportionally more. You always see the exact credit total before confirming any job.

One wallet for every product?

+

Yes. The credits in your account work for translation, dubbing, voice rendering and captioning — no separate wallets to top up, no per-product subscriptions stacked on each other. Buy once, spend anywhere.

What happens when I run out of credits mid-job?

+

You are never silently blocked. If a job would exceed your remaining balance, Traxlate shows the shortfall and a one-click option to buy the exact pack needed. Subscribers get better per-credit overflow rates than the Free tier.

Do unused credits roll over?

+

Pro rolls over up to 20% of its monthly allocation. Business rolls over 30%. Starter and Free plans do not roll over. Credits you purchase as overflow packs never expire while your account is active. Rollover credits are used after your fresh monthly batch.

Can I cancel my subscription at any time?

+

Yes. Go to Billing in your dashboard and click Manage subscription. Cancellations take effect at the end of the current billing period — you keep all remaining credits until then. You can also pause or downgrade at any time.

Are overflow credit packs refundable?

+

Yes, within 14 days of purchase if unused. See our refund policy for full details. Subscription charges are non-refundable once the billing period begins, though you may cancel before the next renewal.

Languages & quality

How many languages does Traxlate support?

+

Over 200 languages for translation, with dubbing, voices and subtitles available across a wide subset that grows every month. These span European, Asian, African, and Middle Eastern scripts including Arabic, Hebrew, Persian, Thai, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Devanagari-script languages, and many more. Pricing varies by language tier — common European languages cost less than rare and low-resource ones — but the quality bar is the same for every pair.

How is the quality so consistent across 200 languages?

We treat every supported language as first-class. Common pairs like English ↔ Spanish and rare pairs like English ↔ Amharic are both held to the same professional standard — no degraded fallback for the rare ones. Every output is also held to the meaning of your source, which catches the plausible-sounding mistranslations that quietly defeat single-product tools.

What is human polish, and when should I use it?

Human polish is an optional step where a professional linguist reviews and refines a machine translation. It costs 500 credits per 1,000 source characters (with pair-based uplifts for rare languages) and is delivered in 24–72 hours. We recommend it for documents that carry legal force: contracts, court transcripts, immigration petitions, consent forms, and certified translations.

Documents & scans

What document formats do you support?

PDF (digital and scanned), DOCX, PPTX, XLSX, EPUB, HTML, TXT, SRT, PNG, JPG, TIFF and WEBP. Clean digital files cost the base rate. Scanned documents, photographed forms and handwritten records add a small multiplier reflecting the extra work to read them — and we always quote the exact cost before you confirm.

Is layout preserved in the translated output?

Yes. Translated documents come back rebuilt to match the original layout — column structure, page breaks, heading hierarchy, tables, embedded images, signature blocks and right-to-left scripts all intact. You download a finished DOCX, PDF, PPTX, XLSX, EPUB or HTML — not a plain-text dump.

Scans, photos, handwriting?

Handled. Old PDFs, photographed forms, handwritten certificates — they all come back as clean, editable, translated documents in the original layout. We surface the document profile and the exact cost before any credits are charged, so you see what the scan quality is going to cost you up front.

Can I translate only specific pages of a document?

+

Yes. During upload you can specify a page range (e.g. pages 12–24). Credits are only charged for pages you select. This is particularly useful for long legal depositions or academic theses where only a chapter needs translation.

Video dubbing

What does a finished dub sound like?

+

The original speakers, in the new language. Voice identity is preserved — same character, same tone — and the underlying music and ambient sound stay intact. Lines are timed to the original on-screen pacing, not crammed in or stretched out.

Which video formats can I upload?

+

Most common formats — MP4, MOV, MKV, WEBM, plus audio-only MP3, WAV, M4A and OGG for podcast-style dubs. Upload size limits depend on your plan; per-job duration limits run from 5 minutes on Free up to 5 hours on Business.

Can I edit a dub before it's final?

+

Yes. Every line of the transcript and translation is editable in the dub editor before the final mix renders. You can re-cast a speaker, swap a phrasing, pin a pronunciation, or replace one line with your own voice — all before any minutes are billed for the final render.

I don't like one line of the final dub — do I have to pay again?

+

The first re-dub on any job is free. Re-dub credits are only consumed when you've already used the free re-dub on that job. Most editing — phrasing tweaks, re-rendering a single speaker, swapping a voice — is included for the lifetime of the project, within retention.

How does dubbing pricing work?

+

Per-minute pricing, tied to the target language's tier and your chosen voice mode (preset cast or voice-clone). The exact total — minutes × tier × mode — is quoted before a single byte is uploaded. See /pricing#dubbing for examples in every tier.

Voices (TTS)

What is the cast?

+

A curated set of named voice characters, each with a deliberate identity — not random user-generated noise. Each character speaks every language on the cast list, so you can pick Aria in Korean, Marcus in Arabic, or your favourite character in Japanese without any retraining.

Can I use my own voice?

+

Yes. Upload a short reference recording of yourself or anyone you have rights to record, and the platform will render scripts in that voice — including in languages the original speaker doesn't speak. Cross-lingual transfer is the default behaviour, not a premium upsell.

Can I tune individual words?

+

Yes. After any render, click a word in the editor and adjust its pitch, speed, gain, or surrounding pauses. Edits apply instantly, no re-rendering, no extra credits. Perfect for landing a specific delivery on a key phrase.

How does voice pricing work?

+

Per-character pricing — preset cast tier, studio (best-of-N) tier, your-cloned-voice tier, and clone-plus-studio for published-quality work. Minimum render charge, no monthly minimum. See /pricing#voices for the exact rates and examples.

Subtitles

What do I get?

+

Speaker-labelled subtitle files in SRT, VTT, TXT or bilingual SRT — timed to every cue in your source video. Caption-only stays in the source language; add as many translated targets as you need, each delivered as its own file ready to mount on a player or upload to a hosting platform.

Do you burn subtitles into the video?

+

No. Files-only delivery means no re-encoding, no burnt-in pixels — so the same source video can carry every language you order without losing quality. Most players accept the files directly.

Already dubbed the video — do I have to pay for subtitles too?

+

No. Every dub job includes free subtitle re-export in every language you dubbed into. You already paid for the speech to be recognised and translated; the subtitle file is just another export of that work.

Can I just fix an existing SRT?

+

Yes. The subtitle toolbox lets you re-time, convert format, change frame rate, or translate an existing SRT — without re-running speech recognition. Costs a fraction of a full caption job.

Editor & collaboration

Can my team work on the same job?

+

Yes. Every translation job opens in a live editor where you can invite teammates as editors, commenters or viewers. Cursors are shared in real time, comments are anchored to specific blocks, and every change is tracked against the original output.

Can I share a job externally?

+

Yes. Generate a tokenised share link (optionally password-protected) for clients or reviewers who don't have an account. Share links are read-only by default and expire on a schedule you choose.

What is approval mode?

+

A three-state workflow — draft → in review → approved — gating any further changes. Once a job is approved, it's locked from edits until an owner explicitly reopens it. Useful for compliance-bound workflows that need an explicit sign-off step.

Privacy & data

Is my data private?

+

Yes. The platform is GDPR-compliant end-to-end. Your documents are encrypted in transit and at rest, never used to train any model, and never shared with third parties. There is no CLOUD Act exposure on the processing path.

Is my data used to train AI models?

+

No. Your source text and translated output are never used as training data and are never sent to OpenAI, Google, Anthropic or any other third-party AI provider.

How long are my files retained?

+

The default retention period is 30 days. You can configure this down to 7 days or up to 1 year in account settings. Immediate deletion is also available — you can request automatic deletion of source and output as soon as you download the result.

Do you offer data processing agreements (DPAs)?

+

Yes, for Business plan and enterprise customers. Contact enterprise@traxlate.com for a DPA, subprocessor list, and jurisdiction attestation letter. These are useful for regulated industries (healthcare, legal, financial) that must document their data processing chain.

API

Which plans include API access?

+

API access is included in the Pro and Business plans, and for all PAYG users. Free and Starter plan users can use the web app but do not have programmatic API access.

Is there a free API tier for testing?

+

Your signup credits (50 for Free accounts) can be used via API. To test the integration before committing to a plan, create a free account, generate an API key, and use your signup credits against the quote and translate endpoints.

How do I handle large documents via the API?

+

For documents over ~500 characters or any file upload, the API returns immediately with a job_id and a poll_url. Poll every 5–10 seconds, or configure a webhook URL on your API key to receive a POST when the job completes. The API integration guide has a full walkthrough.

Can I set a spend cap on my API key?

+

Yes. Each API key has an optional monthly spend cap (in credits). Once the cap is hit, the API returns 402 until the following month. This prevents runaway costs from bugs or traffic spikes in your integration.
